Children's Program

"A school teacher injured his back during the summer and had to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. It fit under his loose-fitting shirt and was not noticeable at all. On the first day of the fall school term, with the cast under his shirt, he found himself assigned to the toughest group of students in the school. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, he opened the window as wide as possible and then busied himself with desk work. When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he took the desk stapler and stapled the tie to his chest. Discipline was not a problem from that day on"

At Rifkin Professional Karate, we are wholly dedicated to providing excellent role models for children.

Through our Black Belt Club program, we encourage and require children students to participate in a "no drugs or alcohol" oath and commitment that they sign, a parent witnesses, and we enforce:

There are many influences in children's lives...some positive, some not. How they choose the right path is largely up to the guidance they receive at a very early age, long before they are introduced to pressures from peers that may lead them in the wrong direction. We give them a high goal to work toward(membership in our elite Black Belt Club) and then incentives to stay in this exciting program.

One of our students competing at a tournament 9/28/08:

Modesty, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance and Courage

-these are the tenets of the Black Belt Club

"I will have the strength of mind and of character to say no to drugs and alcohol as I grow older and experience the pressure from peers to compromise my sense of value. I understand that continued membership in the Black Belt Club is dependent upon this agreement."

I hereby pledge my physical and mental efforts to strive for Black Belt Excellence, not only in Martial Arts, but in all things that I do in my life.

We have all met in our lifetime a child that glows from inside. Whether it is a sparkle in the eyes, or a perpetual smile, they glow from some intangible light that tells us this child has a soaring spirit. The child is confident without being boastful, content without being smug. Children develop a sense of self-pride through accomplishments they make on their own. Though we may guide them, they alone are responsible for their achievements. When the child bows before our testing panel, it is the child alone that performs the material, and it is the child alone that receives the credit. With separate children and adult classes, we provide the personal attention children need to excel. Martial Arts can be a valuable tool in the development of young minds. With an emphasis on showing proper respect for others, behaving with compassion in victory and dignity in defeat, we help shape the values that will extend beyond the walls of our studio.

Our Children’s Karate program combines traditional martial arts training with high level character development and state of the art teaching methods. Not only do our children learn self-defense, they also develop very positive feelings about themselves and others. There are many concerns with how our children are growing up in today's world. The pressures on our youth today are very different from when we were growing up. Children don't only have to worry about getting good grades and behaving, they have the constant battle of avoiding drugs, gangs, violence, bullying, pier pressure and are under the constant threat of being abducted by an adult or another child.

The dangers our children face today are unbelievable. We don't want to be paranoid, but we do want them to be safe. The best way to accomplish this is to have a set plan both at home and away from home. At Rifkin Professional Karate Center, we realize that in order to give a child a head start in life, they must possess certain skills. Although the need for self defense both Mentally and Physically are important, we cannot ignore the Life Skills and Mental Benefits that we much teach our children.

benefits

Martial Arts is great for children A psychological study found that children in martial arts have an increased sense of responsibility., a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks, and a higher sense of self-esteem. This is why millions of parents are using martial arts to supplement their children’s education.

Our reward system improves children’s self-esteem The belt system is the key to building esteem. When kids earn their belts it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that really improves the way they feel about themselves.

Our Program teaches children discipline We have a trained staff of patient instructors who love to work with children, but are also very clear about limits. We enforce good rules of behavior in class, and we expect the same kind of behavior at home and in school.

Our activities channel children’s aggression Many doctors have prescribed our school because of the positive outlet it gives the kids for all their energy.

Our program teaches children essential self defense skills Our program teaches practical, proven self-defense methods. We also teach the kids that the moves they learn in class will work, so they don’t go home and try them on their family members or neighbors.
